The cymbals sound a lot better in EZD and in the expansions I have for that in terms of getting musical sounding crashes that actually hang in the air and shimmer, but they don't have the same amount of configurations/articulations and don't sound as natural as a result. they are pretty bad being very blunt (subjective of course). The biggest bummer for me is the cymbals in SD3. In terms of SD3 vs EZD3, I think SD3 sounds way more like real drums and has way more articulations to play with. It even handles me doing split cymbals via cables I made (to be fair that's mostly the brain of the TD-17 I had to tweak a lot to get that to work right). I am using SD3 and triggering samples with it via my TD-17kvx on a Mac with no impactful latency, I am going USB straight into the machine and doing MIDI over USB to trigger SD3.
